I couldn't make up this stuff if I tried.

So, I’m at work.
I am trying to reorder a product for our production manager. She wrote down “Order me 1000 MT of [product name].”
Well! I think. That’s an odd unit of measurement. I’d better make sure I know what that means for future reference.
I call.
“Hey, what does MT stand for?”
“Oh, well. It’s no wonder you don’t know what that means. Nobody really uses it. I don’t know why [company in question] uses that unit of measurement. I think it’s because they’re from Europe. It’s called ‘the metric system.’ MT stands for ‘meters.’”
“Oh. um.” I’m totally at a loss for what to say. “I’m familiar with the metric system, but I’m just used to seeing meters abbreviated ‘m’.”
“Really? That’s weird.”
“Um. Yeah. Gotta go order this for you now! [nervous laugh]. Bye!”
Please, just shoot me now. I can’t work here any longer.
