Top 5 Video Games of All Time
Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 10:16AM What’s on your Top 5 video games of all time list?
hmmmm, this is a difficult question to answer for a guy who grew
up in the midst of THE video game revolution. I’m going to exclude
Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games, because it doesn’t
seem fair to compare them to their more focused siblings.
In no particular order:
1) Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale series
(all of them. Wish they had never stopped making them this way. Never
enjoyed Neverwinter Nights as much as the original Bioware masterpieces
in the Forgotten Realms setting)
2) Super Mario Bros. (the first one)
3) The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past (simply my favorite in the series. It seemed that all the components of a great game from design through gameplay converged perfectly on this game that in most cases came included with your Super NES)
4) Quake (the
original. Who can forget NIN nailboxes, and in the words of Bill S.
Preston Esquire, “the most excelleeeeennnnttt music!”)
5) Final Fantasy -
the original. (This game was the first cartridge RPG to keep me up
for three days). Final Fantasy II comes in close behind it. Note, I am
referring to the stateside numbering system here.
Other
games that just missed the list but were high in my consideration:
Myst, Riven, Dragon Warrior, Star Wars Rebellion, Star Wars (the
original 1983 first person), Tetris, Age of Empires I and II,
Civilization II and III, Zork and Zork: Nemesis.
